Thursday 14th January, Makar Sankranti 2010 will be celebrated by Hindus around the world. In India this festival is celebrated each year as a Festival ofHarvest. The festival is also featured as the kite flying celebration.
Makar Sankrant is considered to be one of the most auspicious festivals for the Hindus. It is celebrated in various parts of the country with extreme zeal and fervor. In Gujarat and Rajasthan, it is known Uttararayan while in Northern part of the country; it is known as Sankranti, in Tamil Nadu, it is known as Pongal. Apart from India, it is also celebrated in Nepal, Malaysia and Thailand. It is celebrated with great devotion, fervor and gaiety as the harvest festival of the state at many places in the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the few chosen Indian festivals which are celebrated on the same date every year i.e. on 14th January.
